Agong ug Kulintangan sa Kadayawan 2026 Guidelines and Mechanics

The beat of tradition comes alive once again as Agong ug Kulintangan sa Kadayawan 2026 opens its call for participants!

Open to the Bangsamoro and Indigenous Peoples of Davao City’s 11 ethnolinguistic groups, this competition celebrates the rich musical traditions and cultural heritage that unite us through this year’s theme, “We Are One, KadayaONE.”

Guidelines & Mechanics

  1. The competition is open to all members of the Bangsamoro and Indigenous People communities of Davao City’s 11 ethnolinguistic groups, and are cultural bearers of their respective traditional music.
  2. Musicians must be a member of the Bangsamoro or Indigenous People community, and must be endorsed by the respective Deputy Mayor.
  3. The Bangsamoro group and Indigenous People group are of different categories in this competition.
  4. The musicians must use traditional musical instruments such as Kulintang, D’bakan, Bebendil, Agong, Gandingan, Ahung Tangung-guan, Bangkakawan, Odul, Kalatong, Kuglong, Saleroy and other brass, wind and string instruments inherent to their cultural community.
  5. Two groups per cultural community is required; each group must be composed of 5-8 members only, including props carrier. Members should have a fusion of old and young generations.
  6. Member/musician must be at least 7 years old with duly signed parent’s consent.
  7. Each group shall bring their own musical instruments during the competition.
  8. Each group shall perform a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 8 minutes.
  9. There will be a point deduction in every minute of the exceeding time.
  10. Time starts as soon as the first sound is played and heard during the competition proper.
  11. There shall be only one official representative per group whose name and signature appears in the official application form submitted. Only the official representative is allowed to claim the prize after the competition and shall present a Valid ID during the claiming of prizes.

Criteria for Judging

MASTERY
The musicians’ ability to play a particular instruments, coordination, synchronization of each musician, and tonality.

ORIGINALITY
The musical pieces performed by each group must be authentic.

The creativity and artistry, stage presence, and quality of performance.
