THE Mindanao Peace Council in partnership with 4Life will hold the “Dagan para sa Kalinaw,” a fun run for a cause, which will unfurl on September 2 at the Rizal Park, San Pedro Street, Davao City.

The event, according to Mindanao Peace Council secretary-general Vince Molejon, during the Davao Sportswriters Association Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao Thursday, aims to raise funds for building a school near the community of Indigenous People (IP) within Sitio Inamong Arakan, Cotabato.

“Early this year kasi may isang batang lumad na na-bully along the road while going to school. They have to walk seven kilometers kasi towards the school and another seven kilometers back home. Because of this bullying, namatay yung bata,” Molejon said, adding that the death of the innocent lumad child prompted their tribal chieftain to discourage other kids to go to school for fear that they, too, will be bullied to death.

He said the tribal chieftain donated a lot for a three-classroom school that will be built for the lumad children.

The event targets 1,000 participants.

Emeline Uy Tesy of 4Life shared that their company will give financial support for the success of the event.

She also said that 4Life product samples will be given away during the event.

The five-kilometer run will begin at the Rizal Park going to Davao City Water District and back to origin.

A Zumba event will also serve as warm-up before the run.

Registration is pegged at P300 inclusive of race shirts, certificates, light snacks and a raffle entry. (ABM)
