THE Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) is set to place signages to announce the road closures on March 25 to pave the way for Ironman Alveo triathlon.

"We will place our advisory in the identified location from Sirawan up to Tagum City. We will inform the public about the Ironman Triathlon which will be done in Davao city going to Tagum," he said.

He said these advisories will inform the public that the stretch from intersection of J.P Laurel Avenue and R. Castillo Street, Davao City (Alcantara) towards north leading up to Robinson's Mall Tagum will be closed from 3 am to 12:30 pm, and the southbound lane going toward Davao City from 3 to 10:30 am.

Abude also said that the northbound lane (going towards Lanang) of J.P. Laurel Avenue from Corner F. Torres Street up to corner of R. Castillo (Alcantara) will be closed from 3 am - 3:30 pm.

He added that the Carlos P. Garcia Highway or Diversion Road will remain open and vehicles can still use the Buhangin flyover towards the city center. He said the route from J. P Laurel to Alcantara will be closed for 12 hours.

Since it would be Palm Sunday, he said they have given coordination letters to the different churches, and during a meeting in Tagum City, representatives from different churches signified willingness to adjust their time.

A coordination meeting was also held with the owners of trucks as their trucks would not be allowed to enter or exit the ports located in Sasa area during the hours of road closure.

Abude said that they also sent letters to barangays and subdvisions who cannot egress to or ingress from their areas on the road closure hours.

He added that they are also in the stage of making “No Parking” signs to ensure that the roads are clear and safe for the participants.

The roads would be closed starting 3 a.m. to ensure these have been cleared before 6 a.m. kickoff of the race.

Abude also asked for the coordination and understanding of the people during the day of the event.

Ironman 70.3 is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corp. (WTC).

The “70.3” refers to the total distance in miles (113 km.) covered by the race – including the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike race, and the 13.1-mile run. (KVC)
